The Script
Good Evening, I’m Norman Lear.
I’ve been making television for many years as a writer, director, producer, and most importantly, as a storyteller. My characters have lived a multitude of lives, as have I. Along the way, there’s a few things I’ve picked up about making a good story.
A human story.
At Sony, our stories are crafted by writers, cast and crew
but are made real through emotion.
The best ones don’t need translation
because emotion is universal.
Stories transport us to far away places
but it’s emotion that brings the characters near.
Characters want to be heard,
To be understood.
Emotion invites us to answer:
What did she go through to get here?
How will he respond?
Are we the same?
Stories may be a journey somewhere
but they are also a journey inward.
We experience despair, foolishness, and desire.
We uncover the origins of identity, freedom, and resilience
Sometimes in the most surprising of places.
Emotion in its vast palette,
Leads us to this place of connection.
Drawing you into a moment of someone’s life, your life.
It’s an instant that echoes in hearts and minds around the world.
When that happens,
that moment is wonderful.
That moment is magic.
Tonight is a glimpse of the magic to come.

New characters,
New emotions.
